Salisbury Cathedral in Southwestern England

Salisbury Cathedral in Southwestern England

We took some time off our busy tourist schedule to visit one of England’s foremost cathedrals, the Salisbury Cathedral in Salisbury.

This church was constructed in the 13th century, from 1220 through 1258 for the main part of the building; a period of only 38 years. It’s now part of the Church of England, but was part of the Roman Catholic Church when constructed.

In 1549, the church spire became the tallest in England when the spire at the Lincoln Cathedral crumbled. Since the Lincoln Cathedral Central Spire was never re-built, the Salisbury Cathedral remains the highest in England to this day. It stands 404 feet tall.

Easter Eggs at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Over the past 24 years, the chefs at the Grand Floridian Resort at Walt Disney World have been preparing giant chocolate Easter Eggs. They display them in the lobby right around Easter.

Here are a few of the Easter Eggs we found:

The Towel Animals

The Towel Animals

Not long ago, we were on a Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Breeze. One morning, we awoke to a sight that we’ve never seen before on a ship.

If you’ve been on a cruise, you’ve most likely seen the Towel Animals. They appear in your cabin, either in the evening as you enjoy your evening meal, or in the mornings as your cabin steward cleans. But have you ever seen the entire ship completely inundated by these critters?

That’s what we found on this particular morning as we passed the main pool on Deck 10 on our way to breakfast. And admittedly, it wasn’t the entire ship, but instead a good portion of Deck 10 around the main pool, but it was still impressive.

Towel Animals were everywhere on Deck 10 near the pool as we made our way to breakfast aboard the Carnival Breeze.

St. Augustine’s Old Town

St. Augustine’s Old Town

Not long ago we ventured north from Orlando to visit the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. It’s nesting season up there and we wanted some new bird images. While we were there, we walked through St. Augustine’s old town.

You may know that St. Augustine prides itself as being the oldest continuously inhabited European city in the U.S. The debate continues though, because the town of Taos, New Mexico, maintains that it is the oldest continuously inhabited city in America. The difference being the word, “European.”

In any case, we enjoy St. Augustine and can always find something interesting when we visit. Take a look at our brief video and see what you think.

The old town at in St. Augustine is a prime tourist attraction these days, with the restaurants, bars, and shopping, but it’s easy to see that this place has history. It’s a fun walk about town and always worth some time.

Villefranche – A Walk Along the Southern France Seaside Town

Villefranche – A Walk Along the Southern France Seaside Town

Not long ago we stopped in at Villefranche, a little French town along the Mediterranean coast. We were aboard the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas for a western Mediterranean cruise, then an Atlantic crossing back to Florida.

Villefranche is situated about 25 miles east of Cannes, and about an hour and twenty minutes travel time by train. And of course, it’s literally next door to Nice.

Here are some still images we stitched together into a short video to show what we discovered just walking around this picturesque town.

Villefranche is a small seaside town along the French Rivera near the cities of Nice and Cannes. It has no docks big enough to accommodate cruise ships but it’s a popular stop nonetheless, with cruisers going ashore on tenders.

Independence of the Seas, The Video

Independence of the Seas, The Video

We put together a short video with some more images of the Independence of the Seas that we thought you might enjoy. Check it out below. Watch the sound initially since the beginning of any cruise involves blasting the big horns on the ship, with other ships replying. We posted another article about the Independence of the Seas earlier and you can see it here. There was also an ice show aboard the ship. You can see some of the images from that show here.
